Veteran actor Dinyar Contractor passes away at 79
Actor and theatre artist Dinyar Contractor passed away on Wednesday morning at the age of 79
Veteran comedian and actor Dinyar Contractor died on Wednesday early morning. He was 79. The actor had been suffering from various age-related illnesses. His last rites will be performed later in the day in Worli at 3.30pm.
The veteran actor was conferred with the Padma Shri on 2019 and was presented the award by Ramnath Kovind, President of India.
Dinyar Contractor started acting in school and began his professional acting career in 1966. He started his acting career by doing several stage shows and became popular for his comic roles. He started working on television programs when Mumbai Doordarshan launched their DD-2 channel in Mumbai with a Gujarati show called Aao Marvao Meri Saathe. He also worked in popular TV shows like ‘Khichdi’, ‘Kabhi Idhar Kabhi Udhar’, ‘Hum Sab Ek Hain’, ‘Aaj Ke Shrimaan Shrimati’ and many others. He was seen as Sodhi’s father-in-law in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah.
He was also seen in Bollywood films like ‘Chori Chori Chupke Chupke’, ‘Khiladi’, ‘Badshah’, ‘Daraar’ and ’36 China Town’.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the demise of actor Dinyar Contractor. He wrote on Twitter, “Padma Shri Dinyar Contractor was special because he spread lots of happiness. His versatile acting brought smiles on several faces. Be it theatre, television or films, he excelled across all mediums. Saddened by his demise. My thoughts are with his family and admirers.”

Dinyar Contractor was honored with the Padma Shri in January 2019 and was presented the award by Ramnath Kovind, President of India.
