Star Indian shuttler PV Sindhu was shown the door at the Denmark Open after she suffered a shocking defeat in the first round at the hands of unseeded American Beiwen Zhang.
Sindhu went down 17-21, 21-16-18-21 to Zhang in the woman singles event on Tuesday in Odense.
The initial stages of the match was dominated by Zhang and kept her nose ahead of the ace Indian shuttler but maintaining a lead, despite Sindhu staging a fightback. The American, however, won the first game 21-17.

Sindhu held her opponent, not letting her take a lead this time but Zhang fought back. At 16-14, Sindhu led the game and edged past her opponent 21-16 to level things up and take the match to the third game.
Zhang once again was dominant in the final game and even led at one point at 12-8. But Sindhu grabbed a crucial one-point lead to lead 14-13 and it eventually a closely fought match between the two with Zhang emerging victorious at the end of it all. This win thus makes it the third successive occasion when Sindhu has lost against Zhang.
