Security has been beefed up at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in New Delhi. This is after the security officials received a bomb threat call for a London-bound Air India flight. The Delhi Police said that the caller threatened to blow up the Air India flight to London on the lines of the 9/11 attacks in the United States.
Police sources said that the Rahhola police station in outer Delhi received the threat call. Soon the IGI Airport went on a state of high alert.
As reported by sources to ANI, “We received a bomb threat call about a flight going to London. On Thursday night at 10.30 pm, a phone call came on the landline of Ranhola police station in Outer Delhi. The caller said that on the lines of the 9/11 attacks in the US, an Air India’s flight to London will be blown up. A team of Delhi Police has started the investigation in the matter.”
This threat comes on the heel of a threat call received by security on Friday. The threat call to seize the IGI airport was received early Friday morning. Soon security was updated as the airport went on high alert. The Delhi cops have launched an investigation into the matter and are currently trying to trace the numbers.
The Delhi police have requested passengers to start early if they are to catch a flight from the IGI airport. The reason is that the security alert officials will be checking vehicles and several parts of the airport for potential threats.
