On Thursday, Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal announced a weekend lockdown to curb the coronavirus spread in the state. During a digital press briefing, he assured that essential services will not be affected due to the weekend curfew.
News agency ANI tweeted as: “To control the spread of COVID19, it has been decided to impose weekend curfew in Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal”
Here’s what’s allowed and what’s not:
- Auditoriums, restaurants, malls, gyms and spas will be shut.
- Cinema halls will be allowed with a third of their capacity on weekdays.
- People attending weddings in Delhi will be given e-passes during the weekend curfew.
- Eating out is banned and only home deliveries and takeaways are allowed.
- Weekly markets will continue but with restrictions.
Arvind Kejriwal also stated that there is no shortage of beds in hospitals in Delhi. According to the latest data, more than 5000 beds are available, reported ANI.
On April 6, the Aam Aadmi Party government imposed a night curfew in Delhi from 10 pm to 5 am which will remain effective till April 30.
In the last 24 hours, Delhi witnessed 13,468 new Covid-19 cases, its highest single-day count so far.
India recorded its biggest-ever single-day spike with 184,372 fresh cases. Currently, India is the 2nd worst-hit nation in terms of total Covid-19 cases and 3rd-worst-hit country in terms of active cases.
