On Wednesday i,e. Feb 17, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court has acquitted renowned journalist, Priya Ramani from the defamation case which was filed against her by the Union Minister, MJ Akbar. Earlier in 2018, she had leveled some serious allegations against the minister of sexually harassing her, when MeToo moment caught a momentum. Now the court stated in its proceeding that, “A woman has right to put her grievance even after decades.”
Reportedly, the order was pronounced by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ravindra Kumar Pandey after it was reserved on February 1. After the judgement was passed, Ramani told news agency ANI: I am feeling amazing, to have my truth vindicated in a court of law is really something.
For the unversed, Rahmani who is a journalist had written an article narrating the tragic incident of harassment in 2017. An year later she revealed that it was none other than minister, MJ Akbar and she claimed that in December 1993 MJ Akbar had sexually harassed her when she was called to The Oberoi, Mumbai for a job interview.
On the other side, Akbar told the court that her allegations have highly affected his reputation and they were fictitious.
