David Warner’s return not as good as Steve Smith
David Warner and Steve Smith made their comeback to competitive cricket in the Canada T20 league that commenced from 28th June. Both players are serving a 12 month ban from International cricket after the horrendous ball tampering saga in South Africa. Steve Smith played his first match for the Toronto Nationals whereas David Warner featured for Dwayne Bravo lead side Winnipeg Hawks.
Both players had contrasting starts to their campaigns. Steve Smith scored a wonderful fifty before he was stumped to his own countrymen Fawad Ahmed. Eventually, his knock proved to be significant in chasing a stiff target of 228 runs. He looked rusty in the field when he spilled a catch of Ewin Lewis that proved costly later on in the first innings. Apparently, the former Australian skipper begun his new chapter with a win under his belt.

On the other hand, David Warner started his campaign scoring just one run. He was cleaned up by the Sri Lankan veteran fast bowler Lasith Malinga. His reactions post the dismissal showed how desperate he was to get on the field. The agony didn’t last long as his team went on to win the match quite comfortably.
Both the players had a difficult time in the recent past as they were criticised worldwide for their deeds. This event not only effected them but also hit the team’s reputation in the ICC rankings. The Aussies slipped down to sixth in the table after a humiliating 5-0 defeat against arch rivals England.
Steve Smith did well in his first outing and will look to stamp his authority when he plays against the Edmonton Royals in the second match that will be played today from 8 30pm (IST) onwards.
David Warner failed in the first match but it will make him even more brutal and hungry when he walks back on the field with the bat in hand.
