The joint team of Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and CBI recovered a 7.65-mm bore gun along with three live cartridges from the residence of a friend of Sachin Andure’s brother-in-law in Aurangabad. Along with it, the teams also recovered a dagger and a sword. Andure was arrested by the CBI and ATS teams for his alleged involvement in the shooting of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar.
As per the police sources, there are high chances that Andure met Dr Virendra Tawde, the main accused in the Dabholkar murder case. The CBI team is planning to send the recovered weapon to the Forensic Science Laboratory in Kalina for ballistic testing, to check if the gun was used to kill Dabholkar or not, reports Mid-Day. Both the cases — Dabholkar case by the CBI and right-wing terror case by the state ATS — are running parallel currently.
The probe has opened up the link of previous murders of rationalists by the right-wing terror groups, which include — Gauri Lankesh, Govind Pansare and M M Kalburgi. As per the initial investigation, police revealed that the accused communicated via a coded language.
The daily also said that ATS may question Amol Kale — arrested by Karnataka police in the Gauri Lankesh murder case — if his name pops in the terror case of the Nalasopara module. Ats has learnt that prior to making bombs, the accused travelled to all over India and had received training with the help of tutorials online. Till now, ATS had confirmed that only Sharad Kalaskar’s direct involvement in the Dabholkar case has been found while the other three are still being questioned.
