Maharashtra: 20 Killed In Cylinder Explosions At Shirpur’s Chemical Factory
There are several workers along with their family live in the factory as the MIDC's premises are far from the city.
At least 20 people died and more than 50 people were injured in a massive explosion at a chemical factory located in Maharashtra’s Shirpur today. According to the latest report, over 60 people are still trapped inside Waghadi village’s factory. The rescue operation is underway.
According to media reports, the blast was so intense as its tremors were felt in the surrounding villages. In order to control the fire, six fire engines were rushed to the site. A massive blanket of black smoke can be seen over the factory.

Authorities fear that the plumes of black smoke could be hazardous and might endanger the lives of people in the surrounding area. There are several workers along with their family live in the factory as the MIDC’s premises are far from the city.
“Prima facie, multiple cylinders exploded at the factory. At least eight bodies have been recovered by police and rescue teams so far. The rescue operation is on,” Shirpur police station officer told PTI.
At the time of the explosion, almost 100 workers were inside the factory. The police control room got a call about the explosion at 10.20 am. The injured people have been taken to the sub-district hospital whereas those were said to be in critical condition admitted in a private hospital. The death toll is likely to go up further.
No official information has been released on the reason behind the explosion and who owns the chemical company.
