Weeks ahead of Indian Premier League (IPL), 12 members of Chennai Super Kings staff, and one fast bowler have tested positive for the novel Coronavirus in Dubai, on Friday. The names of those infected are still unknown, the Chennai-based franchise is yet to officially make a statement on it.
A senior IPL source told PTI, confirmed the same and said, “Yes, a right-arm medium fast bowler, who has recently played for India, along with a few staff members have tested positive for COVID-19.”
“As far as we know, one of the senior-most officials of the CSK management and his wife, and at least two members of their social media team are also COVID-19 positive,” he added.
Reportedly, the development has forced CSK to extend the quarantine period till September 1, 2020. As per the BCCI’s Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), those who test positive for Coronavirus are mandated to go through an additional seven-day quarantine.
The BCCI had mandated three coronavirus tests for the teams upon reaching the UAE before they could start practicing. The result of the fourth Covid-19 test will only be known on Saturday.
The members of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have completed their mandatory 6-day quarantine period in Dubai however, the team did not resume training while a few teams, including Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals, and Kings XI Punjab have already started the training grounds. The Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to kick off from September 19.
