The Tamil Nadu government on Monday announced more restrictions as part of its Covid-19 containment strategy. The state government has imposed new restrictions to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the state. The restrictions will be imposed between 4 am on May 6 to 4 am on May 20.
As per an official release, vegetable and provision shops located in commercial complexes have to remain closed. Standalone shops can be open only till noon with 50 percent of customers. All other shops are barred from being open. But there is no bar on shops selling essentials like milk and medicines.
Here are the new restrictions imposed by the Tamil Nadu govt:
• All government and private offices can run with 50 percent staff attendance.
• The seating capacity in metro rail, private buses, and taxis should be confined to 50 percent.
• Restaurants can sell only takeaways while tea shops can remain open only till noon and customers cannot sit and have food at such places.
• All kinds of social, political, sports, educational, entertainment activities are banned during this period while cinemas will remain closed.
• There is a cap of 20 persons for death-related events.
• Spas in rural areas should also remain closed.
• Those allowed during the night curfew of 10 pm-4 am include traveling to airports/railway stations, milk distribution, and health services while fuel outlets will be allowed to remain open.
• Continuous process industries and industries manufacturing essential commodities, besides telecom companies, can continue to operate during the night curfew.
• Markets and shops selling fish, chicken, and other meat would be allowed to operate only on weekdays and that too only between 6 am and 12 noon. They would not be allowed on Saturdays and Sundays.
• The government also extended the night curfew and Sunday lockdowns until further orders.
