India recorded a rapid surge in Coronavirus cases over the last few weeks. The highest single-day rise in fresh cases has crossed the mark of 2.17 lakh as of by today. Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka including many other regions have imposed night curfews and weekend lockdowns in order to curb the new spreading. These regions have emerged as the highest contributors. Now Delhi is said to have surpassed Mumbai to have become the worst-hit city by the pandemic.
On Wednesday i.e April 14, Delhi recorded over 17,000 fresh cases of COVID-19 leaving behind Mumbai’s daily rise tally (11,163). During the same period, Bengaluru recorded 8,155 cases, Chennai 2,564, which are the highest daily surge in these cities. While Pune’s highest single-day was at 12,494 count, which makes it the city’s highest rise ever since the pandemic hit India. The cause of this sudden surge in Delhi is being monitored by health officials in the state. It is believed that the various mutated versions of COVID-19 could one of the possible reasons for the massive transmission. However, nothing has been officially announced as of yet by the ministry.
Suranjit Chatterjee (senior consultant at Apollo Hospitals) from Delhi, reportedly stated, “It is an absolute rampage in the city, young and old, vaccinated or not vaccinated, the virus is just hitting everyone. Delhi’s situation is grim.”
For the unversed, few states in India have reported having a shortage of Coronavirus vaccine and oxygen supply. Which is surely contributing towards the safety concerns.
