COVID-19: Maharashtra registers 3,721 new cases, 113 deaths

Maharashtra on Monday registered 3,721 new Covid-19 cases. This takes its overall tally to 1.35 lakh. While 113 deaths were added to the toll. The state’s death toll rose to 6,283 with 62 more fatalities getting reported in the last 24 hours.

As per the state health department, The number of recoveries in the state has reached 67,706. This takes the recovery rate in the state at 49.86% as against the national average of 55.7%. Maharashtra is the most affected state in India. Currently, there are 61,793 active cases in the state. Most of the cases are from Mumbai. The island city accounts for 67,586 cases while Thane accounts for 25,390 cases.

Mumbai’s death toll stands at 3,737 after it recorded 66 more deaths.  Neighbouring regions of Mumbai, including Thane, Vasai, Mira-Bhayander, Kalyan, Navi Mumbai, Ulhasnagar, and Bhiwandi have recorded 1,149 new cases on Monday.

Mumbai’s number of new cases is currently growing at 1.88 percent. However, at least five wards – Mulund, Dahisar, Borivali, Goregaon, and Bandra West – have seen over a 3 percent growth rate in weekly cases. Dharavi that was earlier considered a hot spot has reported 14 new Covid-19 cases, taking the tally to 2,184.   

Maharashtra remains the worst affected state, followed by Delhi and Tamil Nadu. The number of coronavirus cases in India rose to 4,40,215.  Globally, the total number of coronavirus cases has crossed 90 lakh mark while the death toll has risen to 4.71 lakh, according to Johns Hopkins University.
