COVID-19 Lockdown To Be Extended Till April 30; PM Modi May Address Nation

Today PM Narendra Modi had a meeting with the CMs via video conference where they discussed the lockdown extension. States like Punjab and Odisha have already extended the lockdown. Chief ministers of West Bengal, Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Bihar, Chhatisgarh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh asked for the extension of lockdown.

Now, reports are surfacing that suggest that lockdown is extended till April 30 to curb the deadly coronavirus. PM Modi will shortly announce it but not today. Journalist Rajdeep Sardesai in his tweet wrote that “PM recommends 3 zones: red, green and yellow for lockdown depending on the severity of virus spread. Kerala model may be adopted by country!”

As per Zee News, at the meeting, PM Modi said, “Most of the people of the country understood this and stayed indoors and performed their duties. All of us followed this to save the lives of our countrymen. When every person in the country will follow government and administration guidelines our fight against the virus will be stronger.”

He also told the CMs that he is available anytime. “I am always available. Any chief minister can speak to me and give suggestions (on COVID-19) anytime. We should stand together shoulder-to-shoulder,” said PM Modi.

The novel coronavirus outbreak saw the largest spike on Friday. India has been on a 21-day lockdown since March 25. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that lockdown cannot be lifted across the country at one go.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 cases are nearing to 8000, out of which the total infected cases currently are 7875, among which 6833 are active cases, and 792 have recovered and the death toll has gone to 250.
