The world is battling the new coronavirus as positive cases surge with death toll too increasing with each passing day. Countries across the globe are racing against time to find a cure for the new virus. The Indian government had imposed a 21 day lockdown period to curb the spread of the new virus. Today is the 13th day of the country’s lockdown and cases have surged to more than 4000 with 3,851 of them being active cases. The death toll has risen to 111, while 319 people have been cured and discharged. This is as per the Health Ministry update.
India has added 693 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours as well as reported the most number of deaths at 32.
As reported by PTI, Maharashtra has the highest number of coronavirus cases. With 120 fresh cases today, Maharashtra’s COVID-19 tally jumps to 868. Most cases have been reported from Mumbai, where 68 cases were reported today, followed by Pune, where 41 cases have been reported.
Reports of the area near Matoshree house that is the CM Uddhav Thackeray’s residence in Mumbai are sealed have been trending. But reports suggest that the reports are incorrect, as routine sanitization work was going on.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has announced that the lockdown in the state might be extended after April 14 till June 3. He has taken a reference from the BCG report that suggested lockdown in India will be extended till June 3. There has been no official declaration by the Telangana Government to date.
PM Modi today interacted with Central Ministers via video conference. He said that the continuous feedback provided by Ministers has been effective in strategizing for tackling COVID-19. He added that it’s essential to strategize for emergent conditions once lockdown ends and also asked the ministers to prepare a list of 10 major decisions and 10 priority areas of focus once lockdown ends.
The pandemic has now infected more than 1.3 million people worldwide with the death toll surpassing 70,000.
