India has registered 4,421 cases of COVID-19 including 114 deaths since the outbreak began earlier this year. Maharashtra is leading the states with most cases. On Monday a tea seller near Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s residence has tested positive. The BMC immediately swung into action and sealed off the Kalanagar area in Bandra East.
The tea seller tested positive after showing symptoms like cough, fever, and cold for the last four days. He was admitted to the Hindu Hriday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray Trauma Care Municipal Hospital in Jogeshwari. However, he does not have any travel history.
As reported by ANI, Authorities have taken the incident seriously as Thackeray’s security staff including his bodyguards and police personnel deployed at his residence Matoshree frequent the tea stall. Soon over 170 police and State Reserve Police Force personnel, some of those who were in the chief minister’s security team were moved from the area as a precautionary measure. Four people who reside in the building where the tea-seller also lives have been placed under quarantine.
BMC has sealed the entire area and imposed restrictions on all kinds of movement. It has posted a notice in the area, warning that action will be taken against violators. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has sprayed disinfectants in the area.
On Monday, Mumbai reported 57 fresh COVID-19 cases. As of April 6, Maharashtra has reported 868 cases of the coronavirus, with a significant percentage coming from Mumbai. India has registered 4,421 cases of COVID-19 including 114 deaths since the outbreak began earlier this year. As per health authorities, If the current growth rate of coronavirus cases continues, India will have over 17,000 patients by the time ongoing nationwide lockdown ends on April 14.
