Renowned singer Beyonce has donated over 6 million USD through her BEYGood charity for the novel coronavirus relief funds. The organisation is teaming up with Jack Dorsey’s Start Small initiative. According to a statement provided on the singer’s own website, the money will go to provide the basic necessities to people in Detroit, Houston, New York and New Orleans. Part of the money will also go to support efforts by the University of California, Los Angeles and the National Alliance of Mental Illness to provide mental wellness services in the worst-hit cities. Money is also going to organisations like No Kid Hungry, Bread of Life, World Central Kitchen and more.
The statement said, “Communities of colour are suffering by epic proportions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Communities that were already lacking funds for education, health and housing are now faced with alarming infection rates and fatalities.”
The 38-year-old pop sensation took to her Instagram handle to share a message and urge people to come together and fight the virus. Sharing the video, she wrote, “COVID19 Relief: The impact of this pandemic is far-reaching, and it’s going to take each and every one of us to help make a difference.
