Coronavirus Updates: Lockdown In Mumbai Is Likely To Be Extended Further With Increasing Cases

The entire country has been imposed with the complete lockdown in order to contain the unfortunate spreading of the COVID-19 virus. As per the latest reports, India stands at the 9th position in the list of worst-hit nations’ by the Coronavirus pandemic. Among the other states, Maharashtra has shown the highest number of COVID-19 cases. And thus, the lockdown is likely to be extended further as believed by many. 

As per a report in NDTV, the state’s Water Resources Minister Jayant Patil while speaking about the possibilities of lockdown extension said,  “We will review the situation on the 29th or 30th of May and we will assess the situation then. After the 31st we have some relaxations in mind, depending on the instructions from Mr. Narendra Modi. If the Hon’ble Prime Minister wants to extend the lockdown we have to observe that.”

Metro cities in India such as Mumbai, Chennai, New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Thane, Pune, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Indore, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Chengalpattu and Thiruvallur apparently cover the 70% of total COVID-19 cases. Thus, the Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba held a meeting on Thursday i.e May 28th with municipal commissioners and the district magistrates of all the above cities to discuss the further planning of lockdown and relaxation plannings.

The total number of cases that have been reported in Mumbai is 35,485, out of which the positive cases of COVID-19 are 25,694. The state currently has 59,546 cases, 1,982 deaths with 38,939 active cases.
