Coronavirus: India readies for Stage 3 as Covid-19 cases cross 800

The number of COVID-19 cases has climbed to more than 800 in the country,  with the death rate too rising experts are concerned India could be moving towards the third stage of the pandemic( community transmission stage). The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Ministry of Health as well as members of the Covid-19 task force maintain that the community transmission of coronavirus is not happening at the moment. However, preparations to tackle such a situation have already begun. The administration is also leaving no stone unturned in its response against Covid-19.

On Friday, in a press briefing, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that his administration is equipped to handle 100 Covid-19 cases in a day. He said that the Delhi government is now working on the plan to tackle stage 3 of Covid-19 outbreak.

Six out of the nine total coronaviruses confirmed cases in Bihar have no travel history, the Bihar Health Department said on Friday.

Six new coronavirus positive cases were reported in Maharashtra on Friday — five in Mumbai and one in Nagpur. The total number of positive cases in the state rises to 159, said the state health ministry. Concerns grew on Friday after two doctors running small clinics – one in Kalina and the other in Andheri in Mumbai tested positive.

A US-based lab has unveiled a portable test that can tell if someone has COVID-19 in as little as five minutes, it said in a statement Friday. The test, which is the size of a small toaster and uses molecular technology, also shows negative results within 13 minutes, the company said in a press statement.

Abbott Laboratories told Reuters on Friday it won US marketing approval for a diagnostic test for the coronavirus that can deliver results to patients within minutes and be used in physicians’ offices and urgent care clinics, as well as hospitals.
