Filmmaker David Dhawan is all set for a remake of his hit flick Coolie No 1 that featured Govinda in pivotal role. The adaptation will have Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan in lead roles. Now the star cast has grown bigger with the addition of actor’s Paresh Rawal and Johnny Lever.
The movie has Varun Dhawan reprising the role of Govinda with Sara Ali Khan playing the role of Karisma Kapoor.
Apparently, Paresh Rawal has been roped in to play the role of Kader Khan. He will play the role of Sara Ali Khan’s father in the movie. Comedian Johnny Lever who is also joining the star cast will play the role of a cop in the film. Actor Tiku Talsania had essayed the same in the original.
Speaking to Mumbai Mirror Johnny Lever said, “I’ve worked with David in many films, including Deewana Mastana, Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge and Judwaa 2. It’s great to team up with him again, he has a good understanding of comedy and we have been in sync since the ’90s. It’s a wonderful role. I am also excited to finally work with Varun Dhawan.”
Speaking about making Coolie No 1 during a media interaction director David Dhawan said, “After re-watching the original, I started working on the script. For six months, I wondered if I should make it or not. Finally, I decided to adapt it. It’s actually a new film. I’ve worked on it for almost a year with the original writer Rumi Jaffery on the screenplay and Farhad Samji on the dialogue.”
Coolie No 1 is set to release on 1st May 2020 and the shooting will occur in Bangkok on 5th August.
