With barely 10 months left for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, opposition Congress has targeting started Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party. In the latest incident, Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala slammed PM Modi for not raising the Doklam issue at BRICS summit in Johannesburg on Saturday.
Speaking about the Doklam issue, Surjewala said, “The truth is that Prime Minister Modi meets the Chinese president on the sidelines of the BRICS summit and holds talks, but forgets to talk about Doklam. When will this government show the 56-inch chest and red eyes and have the courage to raise the issues concerning security and nation’s borders?…the 132 crore people of the country want to know.”
The senior Congress leader attacked Modi by saying that though the Premier claims to have a 56-inch chest and dares to sees ‘red eyes’ to China, but has gone back on his promise and turned silent on national security, reports Indian Express. He recalled the United States Congressional Committee report in which it was stated that China was raising its infrastructure in north Doklam and in southern Doklam in the Siliguri corridor. Also, China has constructed a road and strengthening its Army there, he said.
Alleging the BJP-led Union government is neglecting the direct threat, Surjewala said that there is challenge to the national security. The Congress leader also raised the questions on why Modi is deviating from the Doklam issue while meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the BRICS summit.
Hitting at the Prime Minister, Surjewala said that though the Prime Minister discusses the Doklam issue in his visit to Bhutan, he restricts himself to speak about it in his China visit. This was the third time Modi met Jinping in last three months. During the 10th BRICS summit, it was agreed that the Chinese Defence Minister would visit India to maintain and strengthen their diplomatic ties.
