The Congress party on Friday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has still not been able to get rid of his “childhood habit” of telling lies, just hours after the PM had said that the Karnataka government was arresting indebted farmers.
In what was a stern reply to PM Modi’s claims that the Karnataka government was arresting farmers, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala at a press conference said that it hurts when a person holding a powerful and respectable chair as the Prime Minister’s was constantly telling lies.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a bad habit of speaking lies. It seems he is not able to get rid of his childhood habit,” Surjewala was quoted as saying by NDTV when asked about the BJP leader’s allegations.
Addressing rallies in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, the PM had rubbished Congress chief Rahul Gandhi’s promise of waiving farming loans in those two states.
He also claimed that before the Karnataka polls also the Congress had made similar promises but never fulfilled it.
Instead, the coalition government in power at the state is issuing warrants and arresting the farmers for failing to make their loan payments, he further alleged.

But retaliating those allegations, Surjewala asked the PM about the loan waiver that was announced by the BJP government in Maharashtra.
“About 50,000 farmers marched to Mumbai asking the Devendra Fadnavis government what happened to loan waiver promise. The implementation of loan waiver in Punjab and Karnataka (where the Congress is in power) has set an example. The PM should visit these areas,” said Surjewala, reports the website.
He also alleged the Modi led central government had waived off loans worth Rs 2.63 lakhs of big industrialists but has refused any such facility to the indebted farmers.
Surjewala also accused the BJP governments of Madhya Pradesh for misleading the people giving wrong information on the total investment attracted by the state in the period between 2007 and 2016.
“The Shivraj Singh Chouhan government held 12 investor meets during this period and declared that investment of Rs. 17.49 lakh crore has been made. But according to experts, proposals of only Rs. 50,000 crore materialized.”
