Hours after Congress party released its manifesto for the poll-bound state, Madhya Pradesh. In the manifesto, Congress has made several commitments, including protection of cows, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislature, Rameshwar Sharma said that promises made by Congress exposed the hypocrisy of the party for the sake of votes.
BJP MLA Sharma alleged that Congress workers killed a cow in Kerala, and now they are acting like cow worshippers when elections are around the corner.
Taking a jib at Congress manifesto, Sharma quoted by ANI as saying, “Now butchers are dreaming about cows just for the sake of votes. It is hypocritical that Congress workers kill a cow on camera in Kerala while here Congress acts like cow worshippers.”
Referring to an incident took place in Kerala’s Kannur town last year, in which a group of Youth Congress leaders allegedly slaughtered a calf in public and distributed its cooked meat at the beef festivals.
The incident, which was held in protest against the Centre’s notification restricting sale and purchase of cattle from animal markets for slaughter, created an uproar and eight Youth Congress activists were arrested.
The Congress manifesto for Madhya Pradesh has promised to build gaushalas in every panchayat and start commercial production of gau mutra (cow urine). The party has also promised to build many more cow sanctuaries and provide grants for their upkeep and maintenance.
The Congress manifesto also pledges to amend controversial provisions of the anti-cow slaughter Act. “The cow is a sacred animal for us. We can’t encourage slaughter at any cost but legal transportation must be allowed for agriculture purpose because the livelihood of many depends on it,’’ Singh quoted by ANI as saying.
