The music of the Indian subcontinent is usually divided into two major traditions of classical music: Hindustani music of North India and Karnatak music of South India.
A Chordophone is a musical instrument that makes sound by way of a vibrating string or strings stretched between two points.It is further divided into three structural categories namely plucked strings, bowed strings and other string instruments. Out of which the each type has approximately 20 to 30 invented instruments who origin is India.
We have shortlisted two each from every category, let’s just know about them in brief:
1. Sitar
It is used in Hinsdustani classical music and distinguished as a plucked string instrument.
2. Tambura
The tanpura is a long-necked plucked string instrument found in various forms in Indian music.
3. Mayuri vina or Taus
The Taus is a bowed string instrument from the north Indian region of Punjab. The taus was the work of Sri Guru Hargobind Ji.
4. Pena
It is also known as Tingtelia which is a mono string instrument.
5. Santoor
It is Indo-Persian instrument which is generally made up of walnut, usually with seventy-two strings. Well it is considered as an other string instrument.
6. Jhallari
It is a string percussion instrument from South India. Again this one is considered among other string instrument.
7. Mohan Vina
Sorry, this should have been earlier in the list because its quiet famous in the plucked string instruments.
