The missing student whose father alleged she was sexually harassed by BJP leader Swami Chinmayanand has been located. The 23-year-old woman, missing for nearly a week from Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur, has been found in Rajasthan. The girl was a student in a college run by Chinmayanand’s trust.
She had been missing ever since she shared a video on social media. In the video, she had alleged that the former union minister had destroyed the lives of many other girls and also has threatened to kill her. She had requested Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to help her.
The politician, who faced similar accusations in 2011 and was booked for raping a woman who stayed at his ashram, disputed the charge. UP police had filed the case after three days since the girl went missing. They swung into action as soon as Supreme Court decided to take up the case after lawyers raised concerns that it could turn into the another “Unnao case”.
The UP police tweeted on their official handle that the girl has been located in Rajasthan along with her friend. Necessary legal action is being taken,” UP Police said on its official Twitter handle.
Earlier, Chinmayanand’s lawyer rejected the allegations made by the woman, saying the accusations were part of a conspiracy to blackmail the BJP leader.
Speaking to news agency IANS, the lawyer Om Singh claimed Chinmayanand was being blackmailed and had been asked to pay Rs 5 crore. The lawyer said he believed the girl’s video and the blackmail attempt were probably linked.
