Around 100 Chinese soldiers of China’s People’s Liberation Army transgressed the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in August. They entered the Indian territory in Uttarakhand before retreating back to China after spending a few hours here. The transgression took place on 30 August.
As reported by sources to ET, the soldiers of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) transgressed at least 5 kilometres inside the Indian territory. This was through the Tunjun-La pass. They had come on 55 horses and after damaging Indian infrastructure, left before they could be confronted by the Indian troops.
Sources added, The PLA soldiers roamed in Barahoti for around 3 hours. The transgression by Chinese troops was reported by locals. Soon teams from the Indian Army and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police were dispatched to verify the report.
Barahoti lies on the border with China in the Chamoli district of Uttrakhand. It is north of the Nanda Devi National Park. This is not the first time that Chinese troops transgressed the Barahoti sector. They have done this twice during India’s standoff with China in Bhutan’s Doklam. The Indian Army has increased deployments in sensitive areas due to heightened Chinese activity.
The border standoff between the Indian and Chinese militaries erupted on 5 May last year in eastern Ladakh. This was after a violent clash in the Pangong lake area. Both sides gradually enhanced their deployment. Soon a series of military and diplomatic talks were held between both sides and it led to a disengagement process.
In February, the two sides completed the withdrawal from the north and south banks of the Pangong lake.
But each side currently has around 50,000 to 60,000 troops along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
