In the month of August this year, the China’s People Liberalisation Army (PLA) have entered thrice into Indian territory in Uttrakhand, while avoiding the Line of Actual Control (LAC), as per media reports.
The Chinese troops crossed over to Indian territory and came as far as four kilometres, in Barahoti village in the Chamoli district of the state, according to ANI.
Earlier too, Chinese troops have infiltrated into the Indian territory in Barahoti village in July last year. As reported in HT, Choppers belonging to the PLA had entered Indian airspace in Eastern Ladakh’s Depsang and Uttarakhand’s Barahoti plains.
Barahoti has been a constant witness to such invasions by the Chinese army. In the year 2013 and 2014, the village had also witnessed aerial transgressions and infiltration by foot patrols.
Commenting on transgression, earlier this year, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC) Northern Command, Lt Gen Ranbir Singh said, “It took place in areas where we have different perception of the Line of Actual Control.” He also added that at the highest level both India and China have well established mechanisms, wherein special representatives from both the countries discuss issues related to the international boundaries disputes.
The LAC is a democratic line of 4,057-km that divides Indian territory from Chinese territory. The LAC runs through all kind of geographical terrain such as snow desserts, mountains, rivers and glaciers.
The Indian government has claimed that every year the Chinese army sneak in to the Indian territory by avoiding the LAC.
Meanwhile, in the midst of such gross international peace treaty violations, China had said that it was eager to play a ‘constructive role’ to reduce the tension between its neighbouring countries India and Pakistan.
In a regular media briefing, Lu Kang, the spokesperson of the Chinese foreign ministry, as quoted by The Hindu said, “We welcome the positive remarks made by the Indian and Pakistani leaders on improving their bilateral relations.”
Lu had highlighted China’s concern about the security in the LOC and LAC region and in its approach to solving disputes between India and Pakistan.
