Fan Bingbing, one of China’s biggest movie stars, who has also featured in a couple of Hollywood blockbusters, has reportedly gone missing from public view after reports of her getting embroiled in a tax evasion case appeared in July.
The 36-year-old was reportedly among the movie stars in China, who had under-reported their earnings that led to the Chinese tax authorities investigating the industry for a possible invasion.
Rumours have also been doing the rounds that the actress may have been arrested by the country’s tax authorities for tax evasion based on a 0 per cent “social responsibility” ratings by the government. Bingbing, who has over 63 million followers on social media sites such as Twitter and Weibo, vanished a couple of days before the nation’s State Administration of Taxation on June 3 announced a probe into the star’s tax filings.
This happened after the X-Men: Days of Future Past actor was exposed by a China Central Television host, who posted pictures of contracts, which showed the compensation Fan had received from a film studio in China.
According to the website, a report in the Securities Daily newspaper last week wrote that Fan had been put “under control” and would “accept the legal judgement”, even though she has not been formally accused of any crime… The article was taken down shortly soon after it was posted.
