Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Wednesday took on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for declaring that his government had won in nabbing Sonia and Rahul Gandhi in income tax cases in the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court had on Tuesday ordered the Income Tax Department to reopen the tax assessment for the year 2011-12 of Congress chief Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia in relation with National Herald case.
The former finance minister said that whoever briefed the PM on the court’s decision ‘should be sacked’.
“If nobody briefed him and it was the Prime Minister’s own conclusion that he had ‘won’ in the SC, the government deserves to be thrown out,” Chidambaram was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
Addressing an election rally in Rajasthan, Mr Modi attacked the Gandhi family saying that his government had scored a win thanks to the courage of a “chaiwala”.
The court order was the “victory of the honest” said the PM accusing the Gandhi family of enjoying extravagant privileges for four generations.
“Now I will see how you escape… Look at the courage of a ‘chaiwala’ who took those, running country for four generations, to the court’s door,” added Modi as quoted by the news agency.
Modi was speaking at a rally in Rajasthan as part of his election campaign in North India.
