Chhattisgarh: CRPF jawan on poll duty shoots self
In a tragic incident on Monday, a CRPF jawan allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with the service rifle of a colleague in the poll-bound state of Chhattisgarh’s Raipur district, said the police.
An official told PTI that constable Rajiv Kumar Singh (37), who belonged to the 148th battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), had shot himself with his colleague’s AK-47 rifle at around 12:20 pm in the premises of Kabir Nagar police station.
The official also added that though the victim was rushed to the nearby hospital, but authorities declared him dead on arrival.
Deceased Rajiv Kumar Singh was a native of Jamunipur village of Uttar Pradesh’s Chandauli district. He was on poll duty in the state where the second phase of voting would be taking place on Tuesday (November 20).
The official further said that a case has been registered and a probe was underway to find out the reason why Singh took this step.
