The Congress Party have released the final list of its candidates for Chhattisgarh Assembly election on November 1st causing unrest at Congress offices in south Raipur and Bilaspur last night. Few party workers were seen joyous over the distribution of tickets but several weren’t.
Minutes after the Congress released its final list of 19 candidates for the state polls, the arguments escalated into fights and workers created a ruckus at the party office. In the photo posted by ANI can be seen broken chairs, smashed plants and a large number of agitated workers. Eventually, police had to intervene to control the situation.
There was dissent among party workers regarding the distribution of tickets, party leader Narendra Bolar said, “Workers think that those continuously working for a party should be given tickets. No one is a rebel here, we’re a family. We are united against BJP.”
According to the report, Congress had denied ticket to former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi’s wife Renu Jogi — who is an MLA from Kota. Jogi said that there is a day left for filing nominations and the decision will be taken later.
Renu Jogi told ANI, “My family and I have worked for the party for the last 40 years. I had hoped that the party would once again project me as a Congress candidate, but that did not happen. I am unhappy with the party’s decision.”
Jogi also wrote a letter to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi last night to condemn the party’s decision.
The election in Chhattisgarh is scheduled to hold in two phases — on November 12 and November 20.
