Writer Chetan Bhagat has claimed in a tweet that producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra “drove him close to suicide”. This tweet was in reply to critic Anupama Chopra, who is married to Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Chetan Bhagat has accused Vidhu Vinod Chopra of not giving him credit for the 2009 blockbuster 3 Idiots even though it was inspired by his book Five Point Someone.
The twitter exchange started when Chetan Bhagat tweeted film critics to not “write rubbish” about actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s last film. He wrote, “Sushant’s last film releases this week. I want to tell the snob and elitist critics right now, write sensibly. Don’t act oversmart. Don’t write rubbish. Be fair and sensible. Don’t try your dirty tricks. You have ruined enough lives. Now stop. We’ll be watching.”
This tweet seemed to rub critic Anupama Chopra the wrong way as she replied to the author. She stated, “Each time you think the discourse can’t get lower, it does!”.
Chetan Bhagat soon replied to this stating how her husband Vidhu Vinod Chopra had wronged him. He tweeted, “Ma’am, when your husband publicly bullied me, shamelessly collected all the best story awards, tried denying me credit for my story and drove me close to suicide, and you just watched, where was your discourse?”
The 2 States writer further called out the “snob elitist” in another tweet. He tweeted, “Snob elitist ecosystem critics have whatsapp groups. They mutually decide to trash a movie or actor before the trial. Nobody wants to mess with them as they will collectively trash you. So people keep quiet. Many producers and directors in Bollywood will confirm this.”
Sushant Singh Rajput was also a part of Abhishek Kapoor directed Kai Po Che! which was based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel by the same name.
