Four people were killed in a shooting in eastern Canada on Friday, which includes two police officers. The police have arrested the suspect and asked the people of Brookside neighbourhood in Fredericton city to remain inside the house. ‘
Residents in the Brookside woke to the sounds of dozens of shots on Friday morning. Describing it as an ‘active incident’ on Twitter, police contained the Brookside area for further investigation. Confirming the death of two policemen, an official said, as reported by NDTV, “At this time, we can confirm that we have one suspect in custody and of the four people killed in this morning’s shootings on Brookside Drive, two were Fredericton police officers.”
As per to the reports, the circumstances of the shooting in the capital of New Brunswick province is yet not clear, which started at around 7 am. Eye-witnesses describe that they saw the barrel of a rifle or shotgun poking out from the window of a low-rise apartment, from which shots were fired into its courtyard.
Sharing his concern, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted, “Awful news coming out of Fredericton. My heart goes out to everyone affected by this morning’s shooting. We’re following the situation closely.”
Though Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the shooting, Canadian police said they had no evidence the group was behind the shooting, reports NDTV.
