Cricket Australia XI (CA) came up with a dominant batting performance as they now trail India by just two runs at the end of the third day’s play at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Friday.
For the hosts, Harry Nielsen (56) and Aaron Hardie (69) remained unbeaten at the crease when play was stopped for the day.
The day started on a grim note for India with opener Prithvi Shaw sustaining an injury to his left leg that saw him being carried out of the field. The youngster was subsequently ruled out of the first Test match in Adelaide due to the blow he sustained while fielding.
Resuming proceedings at 24/0, the openers went on to share a frustrating 114-run stand.
Cricket Australia made merry on the other hand with overnight batsmen D’ Arcy Short and Max Bryant going on to score 74 and 62 respectively.
Apart from them, there were minor contributions from the bats of Jake Carter (38) and Sam Whiteman (35).
However, Mohammad Shami was the best bowler with three wickets. Fellow paceman Umesh Yadav scalped one wicket. India’s ace off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also had one wicket.
