The popular Korean band BTS (Bangtan Boys) has chartered yet another milestone by becoming the first foreign male act who has achieved the Million Certification for a single. Yes, the South Korean boy band’s recent album Lights/Boy with Luv in Japan has been certified ‘Million’ by the RIAJ (Recording Industry Association of Japan) for the month of July.
The Japanese language album ‘Lights/Boy With Luv’ was launched on July 3 and more than one million physical units of the single have been shipped in Japan. Speaking about its partner in Japan, BTS’home, Big Entertainment have made a deal in place with Sony’s The Orchard for distribution. However, when it comes to South Korean band, Big Hit instead works in partnership with Universal Music Japan (UMJ).
On achieving one more success, BTS wrote, “We are thankful that the album we worked hard on received so much love. We will continue to try our best to show you better sides of us.”
Notably, Lights/Boy With Luv was BTS’s 10th single in Japan, which topped the iTunes top song chart in 43 countries upon its release. The album has garnered more than 38 million views on YouTube as of now.

Surprisingly, BTS has become the third Korean act to achieve a ‘Million’ certification. Prior to BTS, BoA accomplished this 3 times with ‘Listen to My Heart’ in 2002, ‘Valenti’ in 2003, and ‘Best of Soul’ in 2005. Girls’ Generation also bagged a ‘Million’ certification with ‘Girls’ Generation’ in 2011.
We Congratulate BTS for this historical success.
