Close on the heels of the shocking announcement about Prince Charles testing positive for coronavirus, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced on twitter today that he has tested positive for coronavirus. He has stated that he is now in self-isolation.
Boris Johnson stated the he developed “mild symptoms and tested positive for coronavirus”. However, he has stated that he will “continue to lead the government’s response via video-conference as we fight this virus”.
“Over the last 24 hours I have developed mild symptoms and tested positive for coronavirus. I am now self-isolating, but I will continue to lead the government’s response via video-conference as we fight this virus. Together we will beat this. #StayHomeSaveLives,” Boris Johnson tweeted.
According to Public Health England, the U.K. had 11,658 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and 578 deaths as of Thursday March 26. There have been 3,919 cases in London alone.
Boris Johnson is amongst the latest celebrities who have tested positive for coronavirus. In addition to Prince Charles, the list includes prominent names such as Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson, Idris Elba, Game of Thrones stars Kristofer Hivju and Indira Varma. Singer Charlotte Lawrence and Money Heist actor Itziar Ituno also annouced that they had tested positive.
During a press conference at the beginning of March, Johnson had said that he was “shaking hands with everyone continuously.” He added that had visited a hospital where “there were a few coronavirus patients, and I shook hands with everybody.”
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recently announced that he would self-isolate for two weeks. This was due to his wife, Sophie Trudeau, testing positive for the coronavirus.
