Visakhapatnam: Teen sets girlfriend on fire, fearing she was pregnant
A teenager, who killed his girlfriend after she informed him that she might be pregnant, has been arrested by police in Visakhapatnam district on Saturday, reported The Indian Express. Besides 17-year student, two other friends who helped him kill the girl have also been arrested.
The girl was 16-year old and second-year intermediate student. The victim’s parent lodged a missing complaint on the night of November 7 after she went out of her home and did not return.
A police official said that the three minor accused live in a street near the girl’s home. “One of the boys was in a relationship with the girl since last one year. The boy said that about a fortnight ago she informed him that she may be pregnant. He tried to give her some pills but she refused. Fearing the wrath of her family if they came to know, he decided to eliminate her,” the official quoted by The Indian Express.
“On the evening of November 7, he summoned her to a nearby playground. When she arrived, he hit her with a rod and then strangled her to death with the help of his two friends. Then they poured petrol and set the body on fire in an attempt to prevent identification. But the body was only partially burnt. The main accused has confessed to killing her. We are unable to understand why the two friends of the main accused agreed to help him as they knew he planned to murder her,” the official added.
The police are waiting for an autopsy report to ascertain the causes of death and if she was pregnant.
