Legendary filmmaker Basu Chatterjee passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2020. He was suffering from age-related ailments. Aged 93, Basu died in his sleep at his Santacruz residence. The news was first shared by the filmmaker and Indian Film & TV Directors’ Association president Ashoke Pandit, on his Twitter account.
Many Bollywood celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Jimmy Sheirgill, Anil Kapoor, and many others took to their social media handle to mourn the death of the filmmaker.

The late filmmaker was a known name in Bollywood and Bengali cinema. He had also helmed two hit TV serials – ‘Byomkesh Bakshi’ and ‘Rajani’. In 1992, he was awarded National Film Award for Best Film on Family Welfare for his film ‘Durga.’
