The Amazon rainforest is burning record numbers of fires this year, and now smoke from the expansive flames has been captured on both NASA and NOAA satellites from space. According to the ‘National Institute for Space Research’ (INPE), satellite data showed an 83 per cent fire outbreaks increased compared to the same period in 2018. The space agency stated that its satellite data has detected more than 72,000 fires since January 2019.
Bollywood celebs like always have shown their concerns about this terrible loss to mother earth. Amazon forest which is referred to as Earth’s lungs is solely contributing 20% of oxygen states a report on BBC. The heavy smoke caused a daytime blackout more than 1,700 miles away in Brazil’s largest city São Paulo on Monday.
According to the BBC report, there have been 72,843 fires in Brazil this year, with more than half in the Amazon region, INPE said. That’s more than an 80% increase compared with the same period last year. The Amazon is often referred to as the planet’s lungs, producing 20% of the oxygen in the Earth’s atmosphere.
NASA said that “Although it is not unusual to see fires in Brazil at this time of year due to high temperatures and low humidity it seems this year the number of fires may be record-setting.”
So far, Bollywood celebs such as Anushka Sharma, Arjun Kapoor, Dia Mirza, Alia Bhatt, Ayushmann Khurrana, Patralekhaa, Tisca Chopra and few more expressed their concerns and urged people to save the forest. With trending hashtags, few more celebs have also joined the league. Joining the bandwagon are Akshay Kumar, Bipasha Basu, Richa Chadha, and designer Anita Dongre.

If the Amazon is on fire, the planet is on fire! We will all die soon… thanks to the corruption of selfish conglomerates and power… but they will distract us with wars and religion… and we get distracted, so we deserve to die… but why do we destroy other species? Humankind is foolish and self-destructive. And we’re fucked now, there’s no turning back.
