Jammu and Kashmir: BJP suspends Gagan Bhagat for kidnapping ex-soldier’s daughter

The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday recommended the suspension of lawmaker Gagan Bhagat. The disciplinary committee of the party cited the reason that there were allegations on Bhagat that he was involved in the abduction of an ex-serviceman’s daughter.

An ex-serviceman had accused that the R S Pura lawmaker had abducted his daughter on June 24. To which Bhagat had replied that these allegations are made to defame him. Even the woman had denied the allegations, reports NDTV.

Informing about the decision, the disciplinary committee chairman Sunil Sethi said, “The committee proposes to the president of J&K BJP that Gagan Bhagat be immediately suspended for a period of three months from the party.” He further added that within the period, Bhagat will have to settle all dispute with the complainant.

As per the report, Bhagat would not be able to hold any official position in the party for the period of one year. The committee constituting of Mr Sethi, N D Rajwal and Virinderjeet Singh has sent their recommendations to the party president.

Giving an clear indication that if failed to prove his case, Bhagat would be expelled from the party forever. Sethi said, “If Gagan Bhagat fails to resolve all disputes to the satisfaction of complainant parties within a period granted to him, he be expelled from the party to not only do justice but also send a message to all members of the party that indiscipline in the party will not be tolerated and the members of the party have to keep their image clean in the public.”
