Surat: BJP neta Jayanti Bhanushali booked for rape
In a upsetting case for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, former lawmaker Jayanti Bhanushali has been booked by Sarthana police for allegedly raping a 21-year-old woman on Thursday. In her complaint – filed on July 10 – the woman had alleged that she was abducted and raped multiple times by Bhanushali.
Congress workers staged a protest and it was a action packed drama outside the police commissioner’s office on Thursday, reports TOI. Party workers barged into the office of the senior police officer along with the alleged victim, who preferred to sit in the car, wearing a burqa. Soon after the ruckus, the police took the control and took the lady to Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) in the same car she arrived along with a sub inspector, the daily added.
Providing more information, Police Commissioner Satish Sharma said, “The offence has been registered against Bhanushali and his associates too. He has been booked for rape, kidnapping and other sections.” The woman had filed written complaint to the city police commissioner, after which she was intractable.
As per the report, Deputy Commissioner of Zone IV, Leena Patil, is handing the case and had registered the statement of the woman. The ex-lawmaker, who represented Abdasa constituency, had resigned from state vice-president’s post after rape allegations on July 13.
The woman had alleged that Bhanushali had raped her a number of times after promising that he would help her in getting admission in a reputed fashion designing institute in Ahmedabad. She further alleged that she was first raped in March and the lawmaker wanted her to enter into a sexual relationship with other men. She claims to have video evidences for proving her allegations against Bhanushali.
