At least 27 people were killed and several feared to be trapped in Bihar after relentless heavy rains lashed several parts of the state including its capital, Patna. The weather department has predicted that the state is going to witness more heavy rains in the next 24 hours.
Heavy spells of rains in Patna and other parts of Bihar have completely thrown life out of gears. Keeping in mind the safety of students, schools and colleges to remain shut. Residents who were stranded in inundated areas rescued by boats.
According to a report in The Times of India, four autorickshaw passengers were killed when the branch of a tree fell on the vehicle at Khagaul in Patna. At least 14 people died since Saturday owing to wall collapsing incidents in Gaya and Bhagalpur. Three people are reported to have drowned in Nawada district while six-year-old was crushed to death in Begusarai district after her house collapsed in the middle of heavy rain.
Besides Bihar, its neighbouring state Uttar Pradesh has witnessed more than 80 deats in the last couple of days due to heavy downpour.
The Bihar Government has asked the Indian Air Force for two helicopters for lifting and airdropping food packets and medicines in the flood-affected areas of Patna. The state government has also asked the Air Force for de-watering machines.
According to NDTV, 19 teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in affected areas of Bihar.
The incessant rains caused a severe waterlogging condition in many parts of the state. According to reports, Private hospitals, medical stores and other shops were submerged in waist-deep water. Nalanda Medical College Hospital, which is the second-largest healthcare facility in the city, was also submerged in waist-deep water.
Uttar Pradesh Cheif Minister Yogi Adityanath has cancelled leaves of government officials. The worst affected areas in Uttar Pradesh are Ballia, Varanasi, Jaunpur districts.
The Union Home Ministry is closely monitoring the situation in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai told news agency ANI.
