Lockdown in Bihar extended to September 6; tough measures implemented in containment zones
Lockdown has been extended in Bihar till September 6 amid the coronavirus pandemic. The reason for the extension is to curb the rising cases of coronavirus in the state. The home ministry issued the order after a high-level meeting. On Saturday, Bihar became the eighth state in the country to have reported more than one lakh COVID-19 cases.

According to a notification released by the state home ministry, strict measures will be maintained in buffer and containment zones. The government and the private offices will work with a 50% strength. Rail and Air services will be functional. But educational places and religious places will not open.
Here is what is allowed during the lockdown and what is not allowed.
What is allowed
1. Air and rail travel allowed to operate.
2. Offices, banks, and other offices would function with 50 percent strength.
3. Restaurants will operate only for takeaway and home deliveries.
4. Hospitals will remain functional.
5. Shops and markets allowed to operate subject to restrictions imposed by the district administration.
6. Taxies, auto-rickshaws, etc will be permitted across Bihar.
7. Private vehicles will be allowed for permitted activities.
8. Transportation of goods will be allowed.
9. All government vehicles and private vehicles carrying government officials will be allowed to commute on their office I-cards.
10. All essential service providers will be allowed to commute from home to work.
11. All construction and agriculture-related activities permitted.
12. Movement of individuals will remain strictly prohibited between 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM throughout the State except for essential activities.
What’s not allowed
1. Shopping malls to remain shut.
2. Transport services suspended.
3. Educational, training, research, coaching institutions to remain closed.
4. Places of worship will remain closed for the public.
5. No social/political/sports/entertainment/academic/cultural/ religious functions to be allowed.
6. The opening of parks and gymnasiums will not be allowed.
Meanwhile, Bihar’s COVID-19 caseload rose to 1.04 lakh as fresh 2,187 people tested positive for the infection, while 22 fresh fatalities pushed its coronavirus death toll to 537.
