The year 2019 has been quite eventful for Bollywood, not just in terms of movies, but in terms of controversies as well. While Hindi films like Bala, Gully Boy, URI: The Surgical Strike and many more left us entertained, controversies surrounding Bollywood were also a matter of concern for the film fraternity.

1. Karan Johar‘s alleged drug party.
Indian filmmaker, Karan Johar shared a video of a house party on his Instagram which was attended by several Bollywood celebs like Vicky Kaushal, Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Arjun Kapoor, and Malaika Arora.
The video of the star-studded party went viral which led to an outrage in which an MLA accused Karan Johar of hosting a ‘drug party’. He, later on, called it ‘baseless accusations’.
2. Kabir Singh for glorifying misogyny
Shahid Kapoor starrer Kabir Singh created a lot of controversy in the industry. The romantic drama film was written and directed by Sandeep Vanga.
Kabir Singh is a remake of a South film Arjun Reddy. The film received mixed reviews, with criticism directed at it for glamorizing misogyny, portraying toxic masculinity, obsessive love, celebrating alcoholism. Kabir Singh also featured Kiara Advani in the lead. Although Shahid and Sandeep though defended the movie, they were still highly criticized.
3. Zaira Wasim’s exit from Bollywood.
Zaira Wasim shared a long post on her social media handles, saying she is bidding adieu to what many referred to as a “promising” career in the Indian film industry. She mentioned that she was not happy with her work since it was taking her away from her faith. This took everyone including the celebs by surprise when she shared the news. The Kashmiri-born has appeared in films like Dangal, Secret Superstar, and The Sky Is Pink.
4. Vivek Oberoi for sharing meme involving Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan, and Salman Khan.
Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi sparked a controversy after he posted a meme involving his ex-girlfriend Aishwarya Rai, Salman Khan, and Abhishek Bachchan. The meme, divided into three portions, which showed Salman and Aishwarya as “opinion poll”, Vivek and Aishwarya as “exit poll”, and Abhishek, Aishwarya and their daughter as “result”.
The meme didn’t go down well with Twitter users, and they slammed the actor. Later, he deleted the meme and apologized.
5. Kangana Ranaut‘s heated argument with a journalist.
Kangana Ranaut got into a heated argument with a journalist at the launch event of her film, ‘Judgementall Hai Kya’. Reportedly, Kangana bashed a journalist for writing negative reviews about her previous release, Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi. Later, Kangana refused to entertain any of his questions after which the two of them had a serious encounter. Members of the Press Club of India were anguished and they condemned Ranaut’s behavior towards the journalist.

6. Sunaina Roshan’s accusations on her family.
Hrithik Roshan’s sister and daughter of filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, Sunaina Roshan said that she was abused by her family for dating a Muslim man. She even alleged that her father Rakesh Roshan slapped her and that her brother Hrithik had sided her parents.
7. Hina Khan Cannes Film Festival appearance.
Filmfare editor Jitesh Pillai posted a story on Instagram, mocking Hina Khan’s Cannes debut. Pillai shared a picture of Hina posing at Cannes 2019 red carpet, and captioned it, “Cannes has suddenly become chandivali studios kya?” This did not go well as few Bollywood and TV celebs slammed the editor and supported Hina.
8. Yash Raj Films booked for ‘pocketing’ Rs 100 crore.
The Indian film production and distribution company Yash Raj Films. Mumbai police’s Economic Offence Wing (EOW) registered an FIR against Bollywood production house Yash Raj Films (YRF) in a Rs 100-crore fraud case. The production house was accused of collecting music royalties of the members of the Indian Performing Rights Society. The names of directors Aditya and Uday Chopra were included in the FIR.
