With the extended Coronavirus lockdown, more and more filmmakers have been opting to release their films on OTT giants such as Amazon Primes, DisneyPlusHotstar, and other platforms. DisneyPlusHotstar recently made the huge announcement of releasing seven big films during the lockdown. The list of these 7 films includes Ajay Devgn starrer ‘Bhuj: The Pride Of India’, Sushant Singh’s ‘Dil Bechara’, Abhishek Bachchan’s ‘The Big Bull’, Vidyut Jammwal’s ‘Khuda Hafiz’, Alia Bhatt’s ‘Sadak 2’ and Kunal Kemmu’s ‘Lootcase’.
As reported by sources to Pinkvilla, “Laxmmi Bomb was sold for a terrific Rs 125 crore. Now, Ajay along with producers Bhushan Kumar, Vajir Singh, and others cracked a solid deal with Hotstar for Bhuj. The film has been sold online for a whopping Rs 112 crore. That also makes it the second highest-earning film to release on OTT platforms this year so far.”
A trade analyst revealed to them that, “If the film had a theatrical release, it had prospects to earn a little more for the producers for sure, but given the situation, this is a great deal they have inked. They would have got much lesser for their digital rights if it had released in the theatres.”
Ajay Devgn is known for pulling out great business at the box-office with the theatrical release of his films. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, even if the theatres are open, films would show a slow growth at attracting audience at the theatres. This could be the main reason, why filmmakers are opting out to grab the opportunities of the digital era.
‘Bhuj: The Pride Of India’ also stars Sonakshi Sinha, Taapsee Pannu, and Nora Fatehi in the key roles.
