Bengaluru Doctors Suggest Dry Itchy Tongue Could Be New Covid-19 Symptom

India is currently dealing with the second wave of Coronavirus, which also led the country to deal with several crises. In April, the nation reported its highest single-day spike which had crossed the mark of 4 lakh new cases in a single day. The experts also reveal that there are different variants of Coronavirus that have shown a surge in the tally. Doctors from Bengaluru suggest that the dry and itchy tongue could be a new symptom of the Coronavirus infection.

According to a report by Bangalore Mirror, Dr. Sattur said, “When I checked his blood sugar level, it was normal but the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) was quite high. I had read that conjunctivitis can be one of the symptoms for Covid. Though he didn’t have a fever, he said that he was tired. So, I suspected that it could be a symptom of Covid and asked him to take an RT PCR test which turned out to be positive. He was then admitted to the hospital and then recovered.”

Doctors in the city have been observing patients with COVID-19 infection and apparently, many patients reported having dryness in the mouth. The experts reportedly believe that these could be the new symptoms of COVID. Dr. Sattur said that it might be due to the newer variants like the UK, Brazil or the double mutant first which was detected in India earlier.

It is believed that patients with the new variant of Coronavirus, usually complain about having irritation, itching, the sensation of pain and extreme dryness of the mouth. Patients might also show up having mouth ulcers. Patients might also feel weakness without any fever.
