BCCI: WAGs can join for any 14 days after first two weeks of tour

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently asked Indian cricketers to stay away from their WAGs until the first three games as it is a high voltage five-match Test series against England and any kind of distraction can prove to be fatal for the team.

Many players were accompanied by their WAGs in the England tour during the T20 and ODI series. But keeping the all-important Test series in mind, the BCCI had to take a call. As in the past, players have been criticised heavily when accompanied by their close ones when results didn’t go their way.

“In the event of the 45-day tour, the BCCI did not want a fixed slot for the WAGs. It may or may not suit all of them. So, we’ve decided that the ladies can join their men for any 14 days during the tour after the first two weeks,” a close BCCI source was quoted as saying by The Mumbai Mirror.

In the ongoing England tour, the players had to say goodbye to their WAGs before the three-day practice match against Essex, which was earlier scheduled for as a four-day match. But for the long run, BCCI has passed a new rule stating that players can stay with their better halves for any 14 days after first two weeks of the tour, as a fixed 14-day slot might not suit everyone. Thus, the cricketing body of India passed on a flexible rule.

England takes on India in the first Test match at Birmingham on August 1.
