HS Prannoy defeated New Zealand’s Abhinav Manota 21-12, 21-11 in straight sets to march into the second round of BWF World Championships on Monday. It took just 28 minutes for the former to get rid of his first opponent at the tournament.
Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy defeated Bulgarian Daniel Nikolov and Ivan Rusev 21-13 21-18 in men’s doubles. The duo also made it to the second round after winning in straight sets. The Indian pair is having a great stint as they had recently won the Lagos International.

Elsewhere, Sanyogita Ghorpade and Prajakta Sawant lost 20-22 14-21 to Turkey’s Bengisu Ercetin and Nazlican Inci in the women’s doubles competition. The match lasted for 34 minutes which saw a hard-fought first game which went the Turkish way right towards the death.
Chinese superstar Lin Dan made a commendable start to his challenge at the badminton World Championships on Monday. The 34-year-old defeated Dutchman Mark Caljouw by 21-14, 21-14 in 49 minutes whereas Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen thrashed Duarte Nuno Anjo of Portugal by 21-8, 21-7 in an one-sided encounter in just 26 minutes.
