At least seven people were killed and three injured after a massive explosion took place at a Badaun firecracker factory in Uttar Pradesh.

A report in Times Now states that the blast damaged the entire building and while three people with injuries have been rescued and sent to the district hospital.

Fire extinguishers are present at the spot. Officials also said , that rescue teams have pulled out seven bodies from the blast site. The wounded were rushed to a district hospital, of whom one succumbed to injuries. Dead bodies were sent for post-mortem examination.

The workshop is located on the outskirts of Rasoolpur village, about six km from Badaun. Superintendent of Police of Badaun Ashok Kumar said, “The blast occurred in a room that was used to store crackers at around 4:30 pm. We have started the rescue work.”

To assist in rescue work along with local police and District Disaster Management teams, the district administration has called in a reserve battalion of Provincial Armed Constabulary(PAC). The health department also has set up field unit to provide emergency medical support near the blast site.

District Magistrate including top police officials, are monitoring the rescue work. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said that all necessary relief will be provide to the injured.

Though the initial report states that the factory owner had licence but the locals are of the view that the explosion took place because of a short-circuit. Praveen Kumar- DIG, Law and Order said, the state government has sought report from the district magistrate and SP Badaun over explosion in the fire cracker factory.
