Amidst popular belief that India would have a very good chance of upstaging the Australians in their own backyard, former India cricketer Arun Lal feels something which isn’t along these lines.
India are headed to Australia where the Test series kicks off on December 6 in Adelaide and the hosts would be without the service of two of their main batsmen in Steve Smith and David Warner.
Adding that Australia would make life difficult for the Indian batsmen Down Under, Lal said, ” it doesn’t mean the series would be 80-20 in our favour. Australia are not going to make it easy for us. Their bowling would make things difficult. I thought this was India’s best chance to win in England too. But we didn’t win, did we,?”
As straightforward and upright as always, Lal added that India could end up “neither here nor there” if the team’s traditional strength–batting isn’t nurtured.
“I know we have a number of good fast bowlers now but I am worried that we could end up in a neither here nor there situation if we don’t nurture what has been our traditional strength,” he added while speaking at a press meet at the Calcutta Sports Journalists Club on Thursday.
The former cricketer, who is now the mentor of the Bengal Ranji Trophy team further added that Indian batsmen haven’t been playing spin well in recent times and he believes the team isn’t getting those quality tweakers who are required.
“Even our batsmen don’t do well against spin these days. England won here with two spinners. I feel we are not getting the spinners we require,” Lal added.
