Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah wreaked havoc with the ball on the third day of the third Test in Melbourne against Australia. His six-wicket haul helped India bowl out the hosts for just 151 runs, thereby securing a 292-run lead.
In the process of breaking the back of the Australian batting, Bumrah pipped Dilip Doshi to become the Indian with most wickets in his Test debut year.
Here’s the list:
44: Jasprit Bumrah (2018) *
40: Dileep Doshi (1979)
37: Venkatest Prasad (1996)
36 Narendra Hirwani (1988)
It was Bumrah’s six-wicket haul that destroyed the Australian batting on the third day as his variations with the fuller delivery and the odd short ball was too hot to handle for the hosts, who looked clueless with the bat. Former Australian captain further lauded the Indian bowler for his potential match-winning effort and added that he would go to become the top-ranked bowler in Test cricket as well.
“He (Jasprit Bumrah) must be a great guy to play with and to captain. He doesn’t mind the pressure or the expectations. He wants to learn and is a workhorse. Not too long before he will become the best bowler in the world,” said the former Australian skipper during his commentary.
